The 2021 G7 summit has begun with a bitter misunderstanding between the French president Emmanuel Macron and the British prime minister Boris Johnson.
During a meeting in Cornwall (South West England), Mr. Johnson has expressed his discontent with the Northern Ireland Protocol. He has asked Mr. Macron what would he do if Toulouse’s sausages could not be transported easily to Paris.
The French president allegedly rejected the comparison; saying that Toulouse and Paris are part of the same country. Such a rhetoric implicitly suggests that Northern Ireland is not part of the United Kingdom; which has infuriated Mr. Johnson.
The British PM has allegedly replied firmly that Britain and Northern Ireland are part of the same country.
The G7 summit is being held in Cornwall from June 11 to June 13. The leaders of seven of the most advanced world economies meet to discuss and negotiate strategic subjects such as climate change, multi-lateral trade deals, and security.
